Impact

Square Robot’s on-stream robotic internal tank inspection enables tank asset owners across the global energy value chain to do much more than simply remain in compliance through time based regulatory tank inspection requirements. On-stream robotic inspection data help customers proactively, more safely, and cost-effectively manage risk while keeping tanks and other resources fully utilized.

Benefits of Submersible Robotic Tank Inspections for Power Plants
Utility companies have a longstanding commitment to enhancing the safety, efficiency, and affordability of their operations. While inspections of above-ground storage tanks are infrequent, they’re a mandated necessity. Traditionally, these inspections involved taking tanks out-of-service (OOS), entailing costs for product removal, tank cleaning, the inspection process, and refilling. This lengthy process exposes personnel to hazardous, confined spaces and contributes to CO2 emissions.
Robot for On-Stream Tank Inspection – Keeps Railroad’s Locomotives On Time
In May 2022, Square Robot performed a Phased Array Ultrasonic Thickness (PAUT) On-Stream Robotic Internal Inspection and API 653 External Inspection of Diesel Tank HVN T-105 for The Kansas City Southern Railway Company (KCSR) at their Heavener, Oklahoma fueling facility. The results of this inspection were used to provide an evaluation per the applicable criteria of API Standard 653, Tank Inspection, Repair, Alteration, and Reconstruction, 5th Edition, November 2014, Addendum 1.

our pillars
Environmental, Social, Governance
On-stream, internal robotic tank inspection eliminates the need for confined space tank entry, contains release of tons of carbon into the atmosphere, and also the solid and liquid waste historically required for traditional out-of-service tank inspections. People remain clear of dangerous working environments and the local community benefits from cleaner air.
Major ESG benefits
• Eliminates human exposure to dangerous & unhealthy enclosed tank environments
• Contains carbon release associated with traditional inspection services
• Supports corporate and local community ESG programs for those working and living in close proximity to tank facilities.
Commercial benefits
The real financial benefit of each on-stream robotic inspection runs from hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars per tank when compared to traditional out-of-service internal tank inspections. More importantly, keeping tanks in service means the tank continues to do its job, safely earning income and creating value, uninterrupted for a longer period of time.
Major Financial benefits
• On-stream robotic tank inspection keeps tanks online and productive
• Over 85% of tank inspections do not lead or require immediate repairs
• On-stream inspection minimizes outage time as it allows pre-planning and provision when repairs are required
• Level loads out of service repair cost, time, and project management resources
Data Solutions
Vastly superior BIG Data sets from an array of high-resolution sensors move Tank Inspection from manual, interpretation-based reports to the era of digitization, allowing advanced risk-based analysis, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.
Major Data benefits
• Unique high-resolution Ultrasonic Data sets provide unprecedented data density and tank bottom coverage
• Allowing clients to use more proactive, data-driven, risk-based inspection management systems
• Optimizing asset utilization, minimizing downtime and risk of failure
• Allowing the use of Machine Learning algorithms and Artificial Intelligence to understand damage mechanisms and proactively manage them across tank fleets
operational Efficiency
Tanks remain in service throughout the inspection negating the need for alternate storage, cleaning, purging waste disposal, or manual inspection. Autonomous, submersible inspection robots delivering factual data that supports analysis by centralized teams of highly experienced senior inspectors.
Major Operational benefits
• Robotic tank inspections are conducted in days vs weeks and months required for traditional out-of-service inspections
• Displaces the need for valuable senior inspectors to work on-site and in confined space
• Tanks remain in service and fully operational throughout the survey
• Enables asset owners to plan tank repairs or focus on other critical assets during facility turnarounds
